LEXINGTON, Ky. - The James Madison track and field team began competition in the 2016 Kentucky Invitational Friday with the distance medley relay, placing seventh overall and qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships meet.

Tessa Mundell completed the relay with a time of 11:58.23 as one of 12 teams competiting, easily crossing the finish line before the ECAC qualifying mark of 12:08.64. The field included two teams from the Kentucky Wildcats, who rank eighth in the nation in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll.
JMU returns to competition tomorrow morning when day two of the Kentucky Invitational begins at 9 a.m.

De'Ana Forbes set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 seconds in her prelimiary heat.
Annie Johnson also turned in a successful day, recording a personal-best 25.58 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
