Wednesday's second contest began in similar fashion. After Arnold singled to deep short and swiped second and third base, the freshman scored on Newton's infield single to the pitcher.
The Dukes led off the bottom of the second with a single off the bat of sophomore infielder Paige Mitchell and a walk issued to freshman infielder Madison Naujokas. Arnold singled to third base to plate one run before a RBI single from Good and a RBI double from Newton pushed JMU's lead to 4-0.

Virginia Tech knocked three home runs in the top of the seventh to pull within one, but Alexander re-entered the game to force a pop up for the save.
QUOTING COACH DEAN
"I took time to speak with the team because the freshmen have never played a home game. I knew it was going to be pretty electric. I said you're going to be nervous, but that's okay. Once we get going, the fans are either going to love you or going to hate you, and nothing's going to change their minds. Just play the game. We did a nice job of that. Any time you win ball games, it is going to create momentum. We want to make sure we continue to work hard and do the little things. The little things add up and allow us to do the big things."

NEWTON CROWNED RBI QUEEN
With four RBIs over Wednesday's doubleheader, Taylor Newton became JMU's all-time leader in career RBIs with 156. The previous program record was held by JMU great Jailyn Ford who drove in 155 runs over her decorated career.
"It means a lot considering I beat Jailyn Ford and Erica Field, both of whom I played with and am really great friends with," Newton said. "They both had my support. It's nice to have that under my belt."
