HARRISONBURG, Va. – Following a road split to conclude the regular season, James Madison slipped in both major women's lacrosse polls, coming in at No. 18 in the IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll and No. 19 in the Inside Lacrosse/Cascade Women's Division I Media Poll on Monday.
The Dukes (11-6, 5-1 CAA) earned a dominant 19-7 triumph last Friday at Drexel, before falling 15-12 Sunday at Delaware for their only conference defeat of the season. Kristen Gaudian led the Dukes with seven goals and three assists, which included career bests of five goals and seven points in the Drexel win.
This season, JMU averages 12.88 goals per game while limiting its foes to 8.59 per outing, which ranks 11th nationally. The Dukes are also 14th in caused turnovers (11.29), 20th in scoring margin (+4.29), 25th in shooting percentage (.450) and 26th in save percentage (.473). JMU leads the Colonial Athletic Association in shots on goal per game (21.12) and fewest turnovers per outing (16.00).
Junior midfielder Haley Warden is 11th in Division I in caused turnovers (2.35), as she needs just one more to tie the JMU single-season record and two more to claim sole possession of most caused turnovers in a season.
Senior goalkeeper Emily Poelma is 16th in goals against average (9.09), and junior attacker Katie Kerrigan is 26th in assists (2.12). Over the weekend, junior attacker Kristen Gaudian produced the program's 37th 40-goal season. She has scored 42 goals in 2017, which is tied for 23rd in JMU single-season history.
Additionally, the Dukes were ranked 19th in the newest Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Women's Top 20.
JMU is off this weekend and will be the No. 1 seed for the 2017 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, which takes place May 5-7 in Towson, Md. The Dukes will either face Elon (11-5, 3-2), Delaware (8-7, 3-2) or Drexel (7-8, 2-3) in the semifinal round, and their opponent will be determined following Saturday's final two CAA games
