HARRISONBURG, Va. – Fourth-seeded James Madison will host Colonial Athletic Association foe New Hampshire in the second round of the 2016 NCAA FCS playoffs on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at Bridgeforth Stadium.
The Dukes (10-1) earned the No. 4 overall seed and first-round bye last weekend during the live selection show on ESPNU, while the Wildcats (8-4) rolled to a 64-21 victory against Lehigh Saturday in the first round. This will be the 17th meeting all-time between the Dukes and Wildcats, with the series tied at 8-8 following JMU's 42-39 win in Durham back on Oct. 15.
It will be the fourth time JMU has faced a CAA opponent in the playoffs and the first since 2008. The Dukes are 3-0 against league teams in the postseason.
JMU is making its program-record third straight postseason appearance and the 13th in its 45-year history. The Dukes won the outright Colonial Athletic Association championship after finishing the regular season with an unblemished 8-0 mark in conference play. It was JMU's sixth-ever league title and the first outright crown since the 2008 season.
The Dukes lead the country in punt return average (29.71) after returning its fourth punt for a touchdown on Nov. 19 in the regular-season finale against Elon. They are also second in both scoring (47.7) and completion percentage (70.9), third in total offense (522.0), team pass efficiency (173.72), third down conversions (54.7%) and first downs (290) and fourth in rushing (297.1). Defensively, the Dukes are sixth in turnover margin (1.27) and eighth in interceptions (17).
JMU is one of four CAA teams in the round of 16. Joining JMU and UNH are Richmond (9-3), which won 39-10 against North Carolina A&T and Villanova (9-3), which triumphed 31-21 over St. Francis (Pa.).
