HARRISONBURG, Va., March 15, 2006 – A record 11 James Madison University field hockey players have been named to the 2005 National Academic Squad, announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
JMU's previous high was 10 in 2004.
Red-shirt senior
Lindsay Coffman (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) earned the honor for the fifth straight year, and senior
Kristen Sondermann (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) and red-shirt juniors
Kate Brady (Hanover, Pa./Southwestern),
Maureen Klingler (State College, Pa./State College) were honored for the fourth consecutive season.
Named to the team for the third time were red-shirt senior
Lori Amico (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot), red-shirt junior
Chelsea Garfield (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) and junior
Laura Pruett (Vienna, Va./James Madison).
Red-shirt sophomore
Courtney Remington (Ruckersville, Va./Albemarle), was honored for the second time.
First time honorees include freshmen
Julia Chase (Cumberland, Maine/Greely),
Jenny Eakin (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock), and
Jenny Shockley (Cockeysville, Md./Bryn Mawr).
Student-athletes on the squad were nominated by their coaches and achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2005-06 academic year.
