This year marks the 37th annual JMU Athletics Duke Dog Reading Program, presented by the School of Professional & Continuing Education -- Youth Programs. The program is designed to encourage elementary and middle school students in the surrounding community to get excited about reading! Students who achieve their assigned reading goals will earn special prizes from JMU Athletics and our partners.

Student Reading Goals:
Pre-K through Grade 3: Five (5) grade-level-appropriate books
Grade 4 & 5: Three (3) grade-level-appropriate books
Grade 6, 7 & 8: Three (3) grade-level-appropriate books
Student Rewards:
Basketball Tickets: Students who achieve their assigned reading goal will receive three (3) digital tickets for each game, which admit the student and two (2) additional guests to this season's Duke Dog Reading JMU Basketball Games:
Women's Basketball: January 9, 2027 vs Louisiana Tech
Men's Basketball: January 16, 2027 vs Old Dominion
Women's Basketball: February 6, 2027 vs MAC Opponent TBD

JMU School of Professional & Continuing Education – Youth Programs: The winning class will receive 10% off youth camps courses as well as a full youth program course scholarship for the individual who reads the most!

DDRP begins Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and runs through Saturday, February 6, 2027. It is FREE to join! All eligible schools must be registered by Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 5PM ET to allow timely delivery of materials and introduction of program to teachers and students before students depart for Thanksgiving break.
