HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis Head Coach
James Bryce announced his first recruiting class on Monday with the signing of three players to national letters of intent. The Dukes will be joined by Abby Amos, Bella Heidenreich and Emma Petersen for the 2015-16 season.
"I'm really excited about this class," Bryce commented. "It is my first signing class here at JMU, and I feel like we accomplished a lot. We have added three great players to our lineup for the future."
Abby Amos is from Leicestershire, England. Coming in at 5-9 out of Cheam High School, she honed her tennis abilities at Sutton Tennis Academy. Ranked No. 6 amongst United Kingdom juniors, she has seen singles action in International Tennis Federation tournaments in Shrewsbury, Edgbaston and Glasgow in 2014. Last year, she participated in the Loughborough 2 ITF singles competition.
"When I went to England to watch Abby play, sitting down with her and her family, I really got an idea of who she is as a person and what her goals are," Bryce said. "She's top five in the country right now in England. She's tall, a lefty and I really feel like she has all the tools to be a top player in the CAA."
Bella Heidenreich is a 5-9 player from Napa, California. While attending the National Connections Academy, she has earned a Monticallo Empire League singles championship as well as multiple national and Northern California singles and doubles titles from 2004-2014. During the NorCal 18s Junior Excellence tournament this fall, Heidenreich and partner Paige Cline were runners-up in the doubles finals.
"I enjoy Bella's intensity and her energy on the court," Bryce stated. "I really enjoy the intensity she brings every day. She has a great personality and a good, balanced game. We feel that, moving forward, she adds depth to the line-up."
Emma Petersen is a 5-4 player out of Miami, Florida, and is rated a four-star recruit on TennisRecruiting.Net. Coming out of the 2014 season, she was named Miami Palmetto Senior High School's Most Valuable Player. During her 2013-2014 season, Peterson led the Panthers to a third-place finish at the Florida state finals and the Great Miami Athletic Conference championship. Her freshman, sophomore and junior years of high school yielded both singles and doubles GMAC District Championships alongside singles and doubles regional championships.
"She has a lot of intensity on the court," Bryce said. "Right now, she is top 15 in Florida. By the time she gets to college, she will likely be a 5-star recruit."
JMU opens its spring dual season against Towson on January 24, 2015, in Annapolis, Maryland.
