HARRISONBURG, Virginia – James Madison University women's soccer has added 10 players to its roster with the 2015 recruiting class, Head Coach Dave Lombardo announced today.
"This class is one of our larger and more athletic ones in recent years," Lombardo commented. "They are expected to add to our competitive mix quickly and find a way to contribute in training and on the field to help us win another CAA championship. We have added strong, athletic players in every position from goalkeeper to forward. Many of these players possess the versatility and experience to play in multiple positions for us. I think they will be a key component to our success in 2015 and am excited to have them join our program."
Brittany Borum 5-7 F/M Moseley, Va./Clover Hill Richmond United
A four-year varsity starter… Was the 2014 Conference 12 Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference, All-Metro and All-Group 5A South Region… Led her team to the 2014 5A South Conference championship and region semifinals… Also picked to the 2013 Dominion District First Team and All-Region Second Team her sophomore year… Served as team captain her last two seasons of club soccer in Richmond… An Honors/AP student who is also a two-year member of the Honor Roll as well as member of the National English and Art Honor Societies, Beta Club and French Club… Also a talented artist that won second place in the Virginia School Boards Association art competition.
DL: Will add depth to our attack. Has a good athletic dimension to her game. Is a very hard worker and a smart soccer player.
Stephanie Hendrie 5-6 M/D Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge PWSI Courage
Played four years of varsity soccer… Earned Second Team All-District her freshman and sophomore years, Second Team All-Area as a sophomore and Honorable Mention All-Area as a freshman… Spent four years in the Virginia State and District ODP and three years in the Region 1 program… Also played varsity field hockey for one season… Also a member of the National Honor Society as carrying more than a 4.0 grade point average
DL: Very versatile player who can play multiple positions well. Very quick, strong and has good feet. Will provide us quality in either the midfield or the defense.
Kaitlyn McCurdy 5-7 M/F Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson FPYC Wildcats
Selected as an All-Region player her junior season… Helpled the FPYC Wildcats qualify for the Presidents Cup National Championship during her time there.
DL: Will add depth to either our midfield or forward roles. Loves to attack and has a tireless work rate.
Alex McGill 5-7 D Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII PDA Shock
Was a four-year letterwinner at Pope John XXIII… Selected twice of the ODP Girls Region I Interregional squad… Played in one of the top club programs in New Jersey with the PDA Shock.
DL: Will be one of the most athletic kids in our program. Plays outside back and loves to get up and down the field to play both sides of the ball.
Olivia Miller 5-10 GK Charleston, W.Va./George Washington WV Chaos
Led George Washington to a 17-3-3 record her senior year and a berth in the Class AAA state semifinals… Named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America 2014 Fall High School All-America Team as well as being named the organization's State Player of the Year following her senior season… Named West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association (WVHSSCA) and Sports Writers Class AAA All-State First Teams and First Team All-Mountain State Athletic Conference as a junior and senior… Garnered WVA Writers Class AAA All-State Second Team honors her sophomore season as well as Honorable Mention All-State from the WVHSSCA…
DL: Will add strength, size and power to our goalkeeping unit. She was recently named as both a NSCAA High School All America and Player-of-the-Year for West Virginia. She will give us some quality depth to the position.
Chessa Ramirez 5-11 M/D Johnstown, Penn./Westmont Arsenal FC Atletico/Beadling
Was a four-year letterwinner for the Hilltoppers… Served as captain her senior year, leading her team to the Class A finals… Also helped the squad to the District 6 Class AA finals as a sophomore… Her club team reached the Region 1 championship in 2013 and semifinals in 2014… Was also selected to play for the North squad in the Santa Fund Soccer Classic following her senior season… Participated in the Olympic Development Program… Hopes to major in business marketing or management.
DL: Chessa will be a strong, athletic presence in both midfield and in the defense. She has the skills and versatility to play in a number of positions and will add a solid athletic dimension to wherever she plays.
Hailey Stein 5-8 D West Chester, Penn./West Chester East Continental FC
Three-year varsity starter… Led her team to the second round of the District 1 Class AAA playoffs her senior season… Earned First Team All-Ches Mont and All-League her junior year after earning Second Team All-Ches Mont and Honorable Mention All-League her sophomore season… Also plays lacrosse for West Chester East… Served as team captain for Continental FC… A member of the Honor Roll her first three years in school.
DL: Hailey is a strong, athletic defender who can play center back or outside back. She has an enforcer's mentality and can back it up with good size, strength and a gritty determination.
Christine Tack 5-7 F Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Greater Flemington FC Flames
Named First Team All-Hunterdon County Democrat and All-Skyland Conference her senior season after tallying 14 goals and five assists, helping her team get to the NJSIAA Group IV championship game… Ranked fifth in the county in points with 33… Helped her team to a 19-4-1 mark her junior season, leading the Red Devils to the Central Jersey Group 4 final… Had 13 goals and eight assists in 2013 earning First Team All-Skyland Conference honors… Was Second Team All-Conference as a sophomore in 2012… Also ran track and field during her high school career…
DL: Christine will add speed, work rate and a goal scoring touch to our attacking unit. She has been a proven goal scorer on every team that she has played for. We look for her to add to our scoring punch up top.
Carmen Thomas 5-7 F/D Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle SOCA
Missed her junior season in 2014 with a knee injury… Scored nine goals and handed out nine assists her sophomore season, garnering First Team All-District honors for her efforts… Had eight goals and five assists as a freshman to also earn the district's first team award… Was part of SOCA's U17 President's Day Cup championship team in 2013…
DL: Carmen is another strong, athletic player who will push the level of athleticism in our program. She has played mostly forward at the youth level, but may also see some time as an attacking back for our defense.
Erika Tomayko 5-7 D/F Hartwood, Va./Mountain View VSA Heat
A four-year varsity starter at Mountain View… In 2014 named Second Team Class 5A North All-Region as a junior… Garnered Second Team All-Commonwealth District accolades her sophomore season… Named Second Team All-Commonwealth District and Honorable Mention All-Area her freshman year in 2012… Spent time in the ODP program with sisters Dayna and Jenna, playing for the state team for three years as well as in the Region 1 ODP Tournament three times… Sister Dayna plays college soccer at NC State, while Jenna is at Longwood… Holds better than a 3.6 grade point average.
DL: Erika has experience in playing both forward and outside back. She has good size, speed and strength and will add much needed depth to either of those positions for us.
