HARRISONBURG, Va. – Breyenne Bellerand and Tori Harris have signed National Letters of Intent to join the James Madison women's basketball team in 2017-18, Head Coach Sean O'Reganannounced Wednesday.
"We went out to find the best fit for our future," O'Regan said. "Tori and Brey stood out to us as players who will bring another element to our team. We always strive to find JMU players - the ones that are respectful and play really hard. Both Tori and Brey really fit the JMU mold, and I'm very excited to see what the future holds for them."
BREYENNE BELLERAND Forward | 5-10
Bellerand is from Emerson, N.J. and plays small forward at Immaculate Conception High School. A varsity player throughout her high school career, she has earned two All-County selections thus far. As a junior, she averaged 10.1 points per game. She plays AAU basketball with the New Jersey Sparks, a Gold Elite Youth Basketball League team, and is an honor roll student.
Coach O'Regan's Thoughts: "Brey is an elite level defender who works extremely hard on both ends. She is versatile and can guard all positions. I believe she'll grow into a nice scorer for us as well as bring a toughness and physicality to our team." TORI HARRIS Guard | 6-0
Harris is an All-State honorable mention hailing from Dix Hills, N.Y. In her two seasons at Half Hollow Hills West, she earned All-League and All-Section Eight Conference honors in 2014 and 2016. She spent her sophomore season at Upper Room Academy, where she helped lead the Colts to the playoffs. Off the court, she is also a sports ambassador and on the yearbook staff.
Coach O'Regan's Thoughts: "Tori is a long, athletic wing who can really shoot the ball. She has a huge upside and is one of the hardest working players I've encountered. She will help us on both ends with her length and high basketball IQ." JMU opens the 2016-17 season on Friday, Nov. 11 at home against No. 13/14 Tennessee at 7 p.m. Both single-game tickets and season tickets are available for purchase now.
