PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore pitcher Megan Good tossed the program's second perfect game in history to lift No. 7 James Madison to a series sweep with an 8-0 run-rule victory against Drexel on Sunday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field.
The Dukes improved to 37-3 overall and remained unbeaten in Colonial Athletic Association play, at 12-0, while the Dragons fell to 16-25 and 0-11.
Good moved her season record to 23-2 after producing a perfect outing in the circle, allowing no Drexel batter to reach base while striking out five in five complete innings.Â
Junior outfielder Taylor Newton was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while sophomore infielder Morgan Tolle was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
The Dukes opened the scoring in the third with a pair of scores. After Tolle doubled to left center and senior infielder Jailyn Ford was intentionally walked, Newton ripped a two-RBI single to right, plating both Tolle and Ford for a 2-0 lead.
JMU tacked on six more runs in the fourth, which was sparked by an RBI single up the middle by junior infielder Madyson Moran. Tolle followed suit with an RBI single to left field before Good smacked a double to right center, scoring senior catcher Erica Field making it a 5-0 ball game.
Â
The Dukes scored three more over the next three at bats, starting with an RBI from Ford and a single from Newton, while junior infielder Niki Prince reached on an error at third, scoring Newton for the game's final run.
