Cole Completes National Championship Tournament in Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - Playing as the only golfer to ever represent the James Madison men's golf program at the NCAA National Championships, junior Ryan Cole carded an 8-over 78 in Sunday's third round to place tied for 132nd at 16-over, bringing the 2015-16 season to a close at the Par 70, 7,014-yard Eugene Country Club.
Paired with UC Riverside's Matt Lutz and Texas A&M's Cameron Champ in the final group of the day to tee off, Cole battled through 18 tough holes with the highlight of the day coming in the form of a birdie putt on the par 4 10th hole. He birdied the 10th hole on two of three days this weekend.
The top 15 teams and the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will move on to tomorrow's final round of stroke play. From there, the an individual national champion will be crowned and the top eight teams will be seeded and compete for three rounds of match play. College of Charleston's Will Rainey, who was in Cole's group through the first two rounds, will represent the Colonial Athletic Association after placing tied for 13th at 1-over.
Vanderbilt leads the 30-team field at 5-over par while Oregon's Aaron Wise sits atop the team leaderboard at 6-under par.
