HARRISONBURG, Va. – Ashlee McGee has joined the James Madison women's basketball staff as an assistant coach, Head Coach Sean O'Regan announced Monday.
Â
"Ashlee McGee is a rising star in this profession," O'Regan said. "Her demeanor, ability to teach the game and passion for basketball is second to none. She will be instrumental in keeping our level of guard development at an extremely high level, and she is an experienced recruiter who relates well to people. She will fit very well into our family and help our culture grow."
Â
McGee comes to JMU after two seasons at Milwaukee. The Panthers earned a spot in the 2016 Horizon League championship game and advanced to postseason play with an appearance in the WNIT.
Â
Prior to her time in Milwaukee, McGee served as both a graduate assistant and an assistant coach at Tennessee State. In addition to coaching, she has handled the administrative duties of collegiate basketball, including team travel and on-campus recruiting.
Â
"I am very excited to be joining the staff and program here at James Madison," McGee stated. "I am looking forward to building new relationships with our players, both on and off the court. This program has such a rich tradition of success, and I am excited and humbled to be a part of that. I am grateful to Coach O'Regan for giving me an opportunity to be a part of something great."
Â
McGee was a four-year varsity standout at Austin Peay, graduating in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in health and human science. A team co-captain, she led the Governors to back-to-back appearances in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament and was voted her team's most valuable player as a senior after leading the league in assists (5.21 per game). She also earned inclusion on the APSU Dean's List and athletic honor roll.
Â
Upon graduation, McGee headed to Indiana to pursue a master's degree in applied sports science and served as a member of the student marketing association. She then transferred to Tennessee State to continue her graduate studies.
