JMU Adds Transfer Kelly Koshuta to Women's Basketball Roster

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Kelly Koshuta has joined the James Madison women's basketball team after playing a season at Virginia Tech. Due to transfer rules, the 6-2 forward will sit out the 2016-17 season and be eligible for competition as a redshirt sophomore in 2017-18.

"I'm excited to announce a new addition to our family," Head Coach Sean O'Regan said. "Kelly will provide us with a solid low post presence and I look forward to teaching her the JMU way of doing things. She has a nice touch around the rim and great instincts, and it's going to be fun watching her grow in our system."

Koshuta appeared in seven games as a true freshman at Virginia Tech last season, sinking her first collegiate points in her Hokie debut against George Mason on Nov. 15. She also pulled down her first collegiate rebound against the Patriots, an offensive board late in the 80-63 win at home.

Heading into college, Koshuta was a rated a five-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz coming out of James Madison High School in Vienna, Va. Tabbed the fourth-best post player, 33^rd-best overall player, in the 2015 class by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and ESPN, she finished high school with 1,768 career points and 946 rebounds.

Koshuta was a two-time Virginia High School League First Team All-State honoree. As a senior, she earned 2015 VHSL 6A Northern Region Player of the Year honors and 2015 Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year honors. As a junior, she was tabbed the 2014 Liberty Conference Player of the Year after earning a tryout with USA Basketball in 2013.
