BLACKSBURG, Va. – Juniors
Aereale Scott and
De'Ana Forbes of James Madison track & field both broke Forbes' previous school record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Virginia Tech Challenge inside Rector Field House on Friday night.
Forbes had set the record at 8.56 seconds at the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 17, 2015, but broke it during the preliminaries on Friday with a mark of 8.54 seconds. Scott matched the 8.54 mark in the finals to finish in third. Forbes ran an 8.59 in the finals to finish fourth.
For the fourth time this season, senior
Kennedy King won the long jump competition. Her mark of 5.93 meters (19'5.5") was almost a foot better than the second-place finisher (Duke's Jaida Lemmons – 5.70 meters/18'8.5") and set a personal record.
Sophomore
Dominique Johnson shattered her personal record in the weight throw with a toss of 15.13 meters (49'7.75"), good for an eighth-place finish. Her previous best was 13.49 meters (44'3"). Sophomore
Sidra Morris placed fifth with a mark of 15.96 meters (52'4.5"). Freshman
Cleo Morris also set a personal record, finishing the 200-meter dash in 25.92 seconds, good for seventh place.

Abigail Duncan – 7.91 seconds in the 60-meter dash; 26.50 seconds in the 200-meter dash
Micaela Poggi – 2:21.02 in the 800-meter run
Ebony Owusu-Sampah – 5.57 meters/18'3.25" in the long jump

The Dukes return to action at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday with events starting at 11 a.m. A handful of Dukes are also competing at the UCS Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
