UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Three event wins gave the James Madison track & field team the lead after the first day of competition at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on Friday night.
Junior
Aereale Scott won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.57 seconds, the second-best time in JMU history. It was her second event win of the season after winning the 60-meter hurdles at the Father Diamond Invitational on Jan. 7. Freshman
Alexys Taylor continued her impressive first collegiate season by winning the 60-meter dash in a blazing 7.54 seconds, good for third-best all-time at JMU.
Senior
Kennedy King won her third long jump of the year, this time with a leap of 5.73 meters (18'9.75"). King also qualified for the ECAC Championships with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash in 7.59 seconds. The mark was the sixth-best time in JMU history.
With 10 points for each event win, and seven other scoring marks, the Dukes tallied 63 team points after seven events to establish a nine-point lead over second-place Penn State (54 points). The top five was rounded out by Cornell (48), Liberty (29.5) and Florida Atlantic (24).
Redshirt junior
De'Ana Forbes placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.77 seconds), junior
Nora Raher placed third in the 5,000-meter run (17:40.85), senior
Annie Johnson placed fourth in the 60-meter dash (season-best 7.72 seconds) and sophomore
Meredith Willis placed fourth in the long jump (personal record 5.53 meters/18'1.75") to bolster the Dukes' point total.
JMU's scoring was rounded out by a seventh-place finish in the long jump by senior
Ebony Owusu-Sampah (5.44 meters/17'10.25") and an eighth-place finish in the weight throw by sophomore
Sidra Morris (15.85 meters/52'). Sophomore
Dominique Johnson set a personal record in the weight throw with a mark of 13.49 meters (44'3.25").
