Women's Golf Opens Idle Hour Collegiate in Seventh

MACON, Ga. - The James Madison women's golf team closed Monday in sole possession of seventh place after the opening 36 holes of the Idle Hour Collegiate, hosted by Mercer at the par-72, 6,083-yard Idle Hour Country Club.

Sophomore Kate Owens led the way through the opening rounds, closing the day in a tie for 18th among 90 competitors at 151 (+7, 76-75), while senior Lauren Comegys sits just one stroke behind in a tie for 21st with the help of an opening-round 73 (+1).

As a team, the Dukes opened with a 307 (+19) before cutting a pair of strokes in the afternoon to shoot 305 and sit just two strokes behind sixth-place Georgia State on the 16-team leaderboard.

Freshman Kendall Turner is two strokes behind Comegys in a tie for 26th at 154 (+10, 76-78), while freshman Ana Tsiros is one stroke back of Turner with the help of her first collegiate hole-in-one during her opening round and a career-low 73 (+1) in the afternoon loop.

Sophomore Carly Lyvers is tied for 66th at 162 (+18, 83-79), while senior Joanna Keck closed the day in 86th at 172 while playing as an individual.

"We competed well on a really tough course today. We know we have things to smooth out in terms of our consistency, but we're in a spot to move up the leaderboard with a strong finish to our fall season tomorrow.

The Dukes will be back in action on Tuesday morning, closing out the Idle Hour Collegiate and the fall portion of their schedule with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. JMU will head off of holes 7-9 alongside UNCG and Daytona State, with BirdieFire continuing to provide live results of the event.
