HARRISONBURG, Va. – The James Madison baseball program has added two to their 2021 coaching staff, as head coach Marlin Ikenberry announced the additions of Jordan Miller and Christian Bourne on Wednesday. Miller will serve as the volunteer assistant coach while Bourne will serve as the Director of Pitching Development.
Â
Miller comes to JMU after spending the last year as the hitting coach for Eastern Mennonite University. During the shortened 2020 season he helped the Royals average six runs a game. Prior to EMU, he had coaching stops in the Great Lakes Collegiate League and at Mauldin High School in Mauldin, S.C. The Winter Springs, Fla. native was a four-year letterwinner at University of South Carolina – Upstate, graduating in 2017 with a degree in business management.
Â
"We are excited to add Jordan to the JMU baseball family," Ikenberry said. "He is a high energy coach with a wealth of knowledge. He will be working with our outfielders and hitters, as well as coaching first base on game days. He did a great job at Eastern Mennonite with their hitters and has been a great instructor working numerous of our camps in the past."
Â
Bourne returns to his old stomping grounds after spending a year as the pitching coach at Mount Juliet High School, located outside of Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to the CoVID-19 pandemic ending their season, Bourne aided an undefeated Mount Juliet staff to a team ERA of 2.50 and a no-hitter in the third game of the season. He helped coached nine players to committing or signing to play at the collegiate level.
Â
Before going into coaching, the Forest, Va. native wore the JMU uniform as a player from 2016-19. He made 55 appearances on the mound for the Dukes in his career, starting in six games and collecting a save before graduating with a degree in sport and recreation management. He currently resides in Bridgewater, Va. with his wife, Lindsay.
Â
"Christian has done a great job developing his baseball knowledge coaching at the high school level in Nashville," Ikenberry said. He knows our program well and is very eager to learn. He has passion, an impeccable work ethic to continue to grow, and he has always had a desire to be at the college level."
Â
Miller and Bourne will help guide a JMU program that is returning the entire 2020 starting lineup, as well as the starting rotation. The Dukes look to continue the early success they saw from last season, before having their season shortened due to the CoVID-19 pandemic.
