History of Sinclair Gymnasium
Godwin Hall is the hub of JMU's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The facility includes Sinclair Gymnasium, home to Women's Volleyball, as well as Savage Natatorium, which hosts Swimming and Diving. Godwin Hall is also home to offices for JMU's athletics administration as well as locker rooms and offices for several sports programs.
The building was authorized by the Virginia General Assembly when Mills E. Godwin, Jr. was governor. It was completed in 1972 and named for the governor and his wife, Katherine, a JMU graduate. Sinclair Gymnasium offers seating for 1,500 and was named after Caroline Sinclair, former department head in physical and health education.
A new Ger-Flor Taraflex competition surface was installed in 2013. The surface is the Olympic standard for volleyball competition, with JMU ranking among only a handful of elite programs nationwide to feature the playing floor. Permanent air conditioning was installed for the first time in the venue in 2013 with new LED lighting added the following summer in 2014. A new Daktronics stats and video display board was installed prior to the 2017 season.

-Turn left at the first stoplight into parking Lot G; parking is also available in Lot F, nearest Bridgeforth Stadium
-Godwin Hall will be to the left
NOTE: Office numbers beginning with 1 are on the first/ground floor, 2 on the second/main floor and 3 on the third floor. Locker rooms are located on the ground floor. Athletics administration offices are on the west end of the second floor.
Sinclair Gymnasium is located on the second floor off the main hallway. Locker rooms for teams and officials are on the first floor.
Parking
While reserved as staff and commuter parking during normal university operational hours, Lot G is open for event parking during home volleyball and swimming and diving contests. Visitors on non-game days will need to acquire a parking pass from Parking Services at the entrance to the Champions Drive parking deck.
