Two-sport athlete Diane Buch Traynor is the only Duke to win all-region honors six times. She was All-South Region in six of her seven competition seasons -- in field hockey in 1984, 1986 and 1987 and in lacrosse in 1986, 1987 and 1988.
JMU's first lacrosse first-team All-America (1988), she was named to the U.S. National Squad in 1985. She was All-America honorable mention in 1987 and was the first Duke named All-South three times. She was selected to play in the 1988 North-South Senior All-Star Game and was named All-South Atlantic Conference three times (1986, 87, 88). She completed her career with a then-team-record 139 goals and still is fourth in goals, seventh in points (178) and 12th in assists (39) in team history.
She was the first JMU field hockey athlete named All-South and is the only player in team history named first-team All-South as a freshman. She was the first JMU player to win All-South first team honors in field hockey three times and still is among only two Dukes with that distinction. She likely would have been All-South in field hockey in 1985, but she missed most of that season with a knee injury.
