Fox was a standout on the JMU men's cross country and track and field teams. A 2001 graduate of Madison, Fox led JMU to a pair of CAA Cross Country Championships in 1998 and 1999, including the 1998 NCAA Regional title and a ninth-place team finish at the NCAA Championships. In 1999, the Dukes finished third in the region, qualifying as a team for the NCAAs for the second straight year, where they finished 27th. A two-time All-American in cross country in 1998 and 2001, Fox also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the outdoor 3000-meter steeplechase in 2001. He holds the school record in the steeplechase and ranks fifth all-time in the indoor 5000 meters and sixth in the indoor 3000 meters.
