Tiombé Hurd competed in the 2004 Athens Olympics after winning the 2004 U.S. Olympics Trials with an American-record jump of 47'5". She also won the gold medal at the 2001 U.S. Outdoor Championships and represented the United States in the 2001 World Championships in Canada. She was the bronze medalist at the 2001 World Indoor Championships, the 2000 and 2001 U.S.A. Track and Field indoor champion, runner-up in the 1999 U.S.A. Track and Field Outdoor Championships and a bronze medalist at the 1998 Goodwill Games.
She was third in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials but did not compete in the Sydney Olympics because she did not meet the Olympic qualifying standard. During her college career, Hurd was fourth overall and first among Americans at the 1995 NCAA Outdoor Championships. During the 1995 indoor season Hurd was fifth overall and second among Americans at the NCAA Championships. That year the Alexandria, Va., native also was runner-up and the top American finisher in the triple jump at both the indoor and outdoor ECAC Championships.

The four-time Colonial Athletic Association triple jump champion and five-time All-America won the 1995 Penn Relays title.
