NASHVILLE, Tenn. (11/22/2000) – Vanderbilt put six players in double figures in scoring and hit on 10 three-point field goals, and the Commodores pulled away during the final half for an 84-70 win over JMU.
Vanderbilt scored the final seven points of the first half to lead 29-26 and shot 52 percent, including hitting on six three-pointers, during the final half. The Commodores took 32 three-point shots overall and shot 45.8 percent for the game to JMU's 43.9 percent. JMU hit on only four of 17 three-point tries and on only 16 of 28 free throws, including but 10 of 20 during the second half.
After Vanderbilt took a 64-51 lead with 6:43 left, JMU got to within six points four times, the last at 76-70 on
David Fanning's jumper with 0:52 left, but the Commodores hit on six of eight free throw tries the rest of the way.
Jerian Younger led JMU with a career-high 21 points and five rebounds, and
Dwayne Braxton had 13 points and Fanning 11 for the Dukes. Younger hit on nine of 11 shots from the field while playing a career-high 33 minutes. Fanning had eight assists.
Billy Richmond had 16 points and eight rebounds and Anthony Williams 15 points and 13 rebounds off the bench to lead Vanderbilt. The Commodores also got four three-point field goals each from Chuck Moore and reserve Brendan Plavich.
