RICHMOND, Va. (3/5/2000) – Reggie Brown's two three-pointers sparked a 16-6 Richmond scoring run to close the first half, and the Spiders went on to beat JMU 80-65 in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals at the Richmond Coliseum.
Brown's three-pointer with 6:02 left in the first half started the Richmond burst and put the Spiders in front to stay, 28-27. His three-pointer at the 0:15 mark closed the first-half scoring and gave Richmond a 41-33 lead. JMU had only one field goal – a
Jabari Outtz three-pointer with 1:18 left – during the final seven minutes of the half.
JMU got to within 49-44 and 57-50 during the second half, but Richmond followed each time with a three-point field goal.
The Spiders shot 45.0 percent (27-60) to JMU's 31.8 percent (21-66), had nine three-point field goals and hit on 17 of 19 free throws.
Brown had 14 of his 22 points during the second half, and Greg Stevenson had 14 first-half points and 19 points overall for Richmond.
Jabari Outtz, who was named to the all-tournament team, led JMU with 24 points and had a team-season-high six three-pointers.
Jamar Perry added 13 points for the Dukes.
