HARRISONBURG, Va. (1/28/2004) – Taylor Mokris had 10 points during a 19-3 late-first-half scoring run that gave William & Mary control, and Tribe went on to a 99-86 win at JMU.
JMU led twice early and trailed only 34-30 before the Tribe dominated the final seven minutes of the first half. Mokris had two three-point field goals and two two-pointers, including a layup with 1:22 left in the half for a 53-33 William & Mary lead.
The Tribe led 53-36 at halftime after hitting on 20 of 30 shots overall (67 percent) and seven of 13 three-point tries. William & Mary during the first half also had a 19-9 rebounding advantage and committed but six turnovers.
JMU got as close as 80-70 on a
Dwayne Broyles layup with 6:38 left, but William & Mary's Nick D'Antoni and Zeb Cope had three-pointers at the 5:38 and 4:44 marks to raise the lead to 86-70.
D'Antoni hit on six of seven three-point tries and led five William & Mary players in double figures in scoring with 22 points. Cope and Corey Cofield added 18 points, Adam Hess 15 and Mokris 12 for the Tribe.
William & Mary shot 60 percent overall (33-55), 52 percent from three-point range (12-23) and 91.3 percent from the foul line (21-23).
JMU got 27 points from Broyles, who tied his career scoring high.
Ray Barbosa had 18 points off the bench and
Daniel Freeman 12. Broyles hit on nine of 15 shots, including five of nine three-point attempts. The game was the second straight in which he had five three-pointers.
JMU shot 48 percent overall (29-61) and 41 percent from three-point range (11-27) but was out-rebounded 37-21.
