HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 4, 2005 -- James Madison used a 16-0 scoring run to pull away late in the first half and went on to post an 80-55 win over visiting Cornell in women's basketball Tuesday night at the JMU Convocation Center.

Cornell was up 22-18 after freshman Lindsay Krasna's (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) three-pointer with 5:47 left in the first half. Then the Dukes ran off 16 unanswered points, with sophomore Meredith Alexis (Hanover Township, Pa./Bishop Hoban) scoring six of those and sophomore Shirley McCall (Collinsville, Va./Bassett) contributing five. That gave the Dukes a 14-point (36-22) lead with 30 seconds remaining.

Krasna hit two foul shots with 5.8 seconds left to close the margin to 12, 36-24, at intermission.

However, JMU tallied the first eight points of the second half, with Alexis scoring six of those, to extend its lead to 44-26 at 17:54. Cornell got no closer than 13 (46-33 at 16:11) the rest of the way.

JMU improved to 8-2 while Cornell dropped to 1-9 with its ninth consecutive defeat.

Four Dukes scored in double figures with freshman forward Tamera Young (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) leading the way with a game-high and career-high 21 points. Sophomore guard Lesley Dickinson (Queens Village, N.Y./Christ the King) finished with 17, Alexis tied her season high with 16, and McCall added 11. Young was the game's top rebounder with seven.

Sophomore forward Amy Lyon (Hyannis Pot, Mass./Barnstable) led the Big Red with 15 points and Krasna finished with 13.
