WASHINGTON, D.C. Oct. 16, 2005- The 16th-ranked James Madison field hockey team shut out Georgetown 4-0 Sunday at Kehoe Field.
The defeat over the Hoyas brings JMU to a 9-6 record and Georgetown to 3-9.
At 20:24 into the first half freshman Ashley Walls (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) broke through on a pass from Junior Baillie Versfeld and scored the first goal for the Dukes.Â
James Madison stayed on the attack but the GU defense held them off until a foul near the end of the first half produced a penalty corner for the Dukes. As JMU took their shot off a corner setup, the ball went past Hoya goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md.), blocked by a body part of senior defender Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, N.Y.) producing a penalty stroke for the Dukes. Freshman Melissa Stefaniak (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) took the penalty stroke and shot it past Winer for a 2-0 JMU lead going into halftime. Â
In the second half freshman Ashley Walls (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) scored the third goal for the Dukes off a pass from Versfeld. As the end of regulation was near, JMU set up another penalty corner.  They took their shot and a foul was called on the Hoyas Bump for again using her body rather than her stick to block a shot.  Freshman Melissa Walls (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) scored the fourth and final goal for JMU off the penalty stroke in the last seconds of the game.
The win over Georgetown brings the Dukes their seventh shutout of the season.
