HARRISONBURG, Va., Dec. 29, 2005 -- The James Madison women's basketball team won its eighth straight game with a 68-50 victory over Hampton (1-9) Thursday night at the JMU Convocation Center.
JMU (9-1) led the entire game with four Dukes scoring in double figures. Junior Meredith Alexis (Hanover Township, Pa./Bishop Hoban) had a team high 18 points and nine rebounds and a career-high five steals. Junior Lesley Dickinson (Queens Village, N.Y./Christ the King) added another 17 points and eight rebounds.
Dukes' junior Shirley McCall (Collinsville, Va./Bassett) also chipped in with 12 points while sophomore Tamera Young (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) added another 11 points and five assists.
The Dukes held a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Hampton got as close as nine points four times in the final 12 minutes, the last time 53-44 at 5:41.
Sophomore Stephanie James (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sierra) and freshman Roneisha Corbitt (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson ) led Hampton with 12 points each. Sophomore Monica Rogers (Forsyth, Ill./St. Teresa) added another 10 points and a game high 10 boards for the Pirates.
The loss was the fifth straight for Hampton.
JMU's eight-game winning streak is the longest since the 1994-95 season, when the Dukes won 12 in a row.
