HARRISONBURG, Va. (3/11/05) – Sophomore Andrew Davis (Chillicothe, Ohio/Zane Trace) and junior Kurt Eichorn (Galion, Ohio/Lexington) combined for five hits and five RBI to power Kent State to a 7-3 victory against host James Madison in non-conference college baseball Friday afternoon.

The Golden Flashes evened their record to 5-5 with their second straight win against JMU. The first victory came last Sunday in an 11-6 final during the Springmaid Beach Resort Rumble in Conway, S.C. The Dukes lost their fifth in a row and fell to 1-8.

Davis went 3-for-5 and broke a 2-2 tie with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, scoring sophomore shortstop Emmanuel Burriss (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who had led off the inning with a triple off the top of the right-field fence. Davis drove in KSU's next run in the seventh on a single to right field.

Eichorn pushed his RBI total on the season to 17. He tied the contest at 2-2 in the third inning with a groundout. His two-out double in the top of the ninth plated the final two runs of the game. Eichorn's other hit was a single that helped KSU eventually score a run in the first inning.

Sophomore right-handers John Pacella (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy) and Evan Smith (Milford, Ohio/Milford) combined on the seven-hitter. Pacella picked up his first decision of the season with five innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Smith tossed the final four innings, yielding one run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts to earn his first save of the year.

Junior Nate Schill (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) smacked a two-run homer that gave the Dukes a 2-1 lead in the first inning. Junior center fielder Skyler Doom (Yorktown, Va./York) extended his hitting streak to five games with a pair of hits. Freshman Kellen Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) drove in the Dukes' final run with the second of his two hits of the day.

The three-game series continues Saturday at 1 p.m.
