HARRISONBURG, Va., May 17, 2005 – Virginia freshman right-hander Robert Poutier (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) tossed six innings without yielding an earned run, and freshman first baseman Sean Doolittle (Tabernacle, N.J./Shawnee) smacked his 10^th homer of the season to help lead the Cavaliers to a 10-2 non-conference baseball win at James Madison Tuesday afternoon.

The Cavaliers upped their overall record to 35-17. The Dukes fell to 20-32 in their final home game of the season.

Poutier improved his record to 5-1, and the only run scored during his time on the mound was the result of a two-out fielding error. He lowered his earned run average to 0.35 in 46 innings. The Dukes managed three of their six hits against him in the first inning, but a double play kept the home team from taking the early lead. Poutier struck out five and walked one.

Doolittle gave the Cavs a 4-0 lead in the third with a two-run homer to right-center. It was his only hit of the day, but he picked up a third RBI with a grounder in the fifth inning.

Senior second baseman Kyle Werman (Vienna, Va./James Madison) blew the game open with a three-run double in the four-run eighth. He finished with four RBI. Senior catcher Scott Headd (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and junior left fielder Tom Hagan (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.

Junior catcher Matt Sluder (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis), junior outfielder Skyler Doom (Yorktown, Va./York), and freshman right fielder Kellen Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) each had two hits for the Dukes.

The Cavaliers host Duke Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first of a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series. The Dukes travel to Fairfax, Va. to begin a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at George Mason Friday at 3 p.m. JMU must win the series in order for a chance at earning a CAA tournament bid.
