HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 13, 2005 -- The James Madison women's basketball team won its sixth straight home game with a 68-56 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Northeastern (0-4, 4-9) Friday night at the JMU Convocation Center.
JMU (3-1, 11-2), which led the entire game, had three Dukes scoring in double figures. Junior Lesley Dickinson (Queens Village, N.Y./Christ the King) had a season- and team- high 25 points while sophomore Jasmin Lawrence (Queens, N.Y./Francis Lewis) added a career high 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field. Lawrence was also 2-for-2 from the foul line.
The Dukes led at half by a score of 40-29. Northeastern went on a 9-0 run to close within two (40-38) of the Dukes' lead at 13:07 in the second half. JMU responded with a 11-0 run to push its lead to 13 (51-38) at 10:36.
Junior Andrea Benvenuto (Ontario, Canada/St. Mary's) added a career high 10 assists for the Dukes while junior Meredith Alexis (Hanover Township, Pa./Bishop Hoban) pulled down 12 boards to go along with 11 points. She increased her double-doubles record to 31 games.
Sophomore Tamera Young (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) led all players with 13 rebounds.
Senior Maralene Zwarich (Merriam, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) led the Huskies with 14 points and five assists. Junior Jody Burrows (Corry, Pa./Corry) and senior Michelle Decerbo (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) each added 10 points.
