HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 20, 2005 -- Junior Andrea Benvenuto (Ontario,Canada/St. Mary's) scored a career-high 16 points to lead the James Madison women's basketball team to its seventh straight home win, a 75-61 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson (2-4, 7-8) Friday night at the JMU Convocation Center.
The Dukes (4-2, 12-3), had four players score in double figures. Junior Shirley McCall (Collinsville, Va./Bassett) tied Benvenuto with 16 points while junior Lesley Dickinson (Queens Village, N.Y./Christ the King) added another 15 points JMU.
Towson led at half by a score of 29-26. Senior Tierra Jackson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) and sophomore Jamell Beasley (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) each had 10 points in the first half.
Jackson led all scorers with 21 points while pulling down four rebounds. Beasley finished with 15 points.
The Dukes came out strong in the second half, going on an 18-5 run at 11:33 to take a 62-48 lead. Benvenuto scored six of her career-high total during the run which lasted 7:13. Towson scored only one field goal in that span.
JMU sophomore Tamera Young (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) led all players with 15 rebounds.
