RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 27, 2006 -- James Madison and Virginia Commonwealth played to a double-overtime scoreless tie in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action Friday night at VCU's Sports Backers Stadium.

JMU's record for the season is 9-5-3 overall and 4-4-3 in the CAA, while the Rams closed their season with a 4-13-1 overall record and 2-8-1 in the CAA.

JMU had the most scoring opportunities in the contest and dominated both overtime periods with a total of five shots while the Rams only managed two scoring opportunities.

Senior Kurt Morsink (San Jose, Costa Rica/IMG) had six attempts on goal and senior Mark Totten (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) had five shots to lead the Dukes on offense. VCU's Nate Burkey (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) had the most scoring opportunities for the Rams, with four shots in the contest.

For the match, JMU out-shot the Rams 22-12, and also had the advantage in corner kicks with 10 to VCU's 1.

VCU's sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra (Woodbridge, Va./Osbourn Park) played well in goal for the Rams, making five saves. Red-shirt senior goalkeeper Kevin Trapp (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) had seven saves for the Dukes for his sixth shutout of the year and his 26th career shutout.

The Dukes finished regular-season CAA play tied for seventh place with William and Mary. Only the top six teams qualify for the postseason CAA tournament. Towson (#1 seed), Hofstra (#2), Old Dominion (#3), George Mason (#4), Northeastern (#5) and UNC Wilmington (#6) will advance to the CAA Tournament. First-round games will be hosted by the number three and four seeds on Oct. 31, while the semifinals (Nov. 3) and championship game (Nov. 5) will be played at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, Va.
