HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept., 22, 2006 - Sophomore setter Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) tied a career high with 63 assists and added a career-best 15 digs  in leading James Madison University to a 3-1 win over the College of William and Mary in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Friday.
JMU (8-5, 3-2 CAA) defeated W&M (4-8, 1-4 CAA) by game scores of 30-15, 28-30, 30-21, and 31-29. The Dukes won their fourth in a row at home and improved to 7-1 on the season in Sinclair Gymnasium.
JMU started the match in dominant fashion with a 30-15 win in game one. The Dukes never trailed in the game and had a .564 team attack percentage with just one hitting error on 39 attempts. Miles had 19 of her 63 assists in the first game while six different JMU players had at least three kills, including five Dukes with four apiece.
The Dukes led 16-11 in game two before the Tribe made a few adjustments and turned things around to pull within 16-15. W&M didn't take its first lead until 28-27. Following a kill by JMU senior Bayli Stillwell (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) to tie the score, freshman Lindsey Pflugner (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) recorded a pivotal kill for the Tribe and JMU followed with an attack error to give the win to W&M. The Dukes were done in by 16 errors in the game, including eight attack errors, four service errors, two receiving errors, and two blocking errors.
W&M scored the first point in game three but never led again. JMU held a tight two or three point lead until W&M managed to tie the game at 16-16. The Dukes called a timeout to regroup and responded with a three-point run. The Tribe called a timeout of their own and eventually pulled within one at 20-19, but JMU took over from there, going on a six-point run with junior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) at serve and going on to win 30-21.
In the final game, the Tribe took a commanding 17-9 lead before a service error started the Dukes on a 10-2 run to tie the score at 19-19. After a see-saw affair that saw the Tribe reach game point at 29-28, JMU senior Hanna Porterfield (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) came through with a kill to tie it and Halls registered another kill to put the Dukes up by one. With game point on the line, Halls and Miles teamed for a block on the right side to clinch victory for JMU.
It was Miles' second straight match with 63 assists, tying the career high that she established on Tuesday in a 3-1 win over Liberty. She also had a career-high 15 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Halls hit at a .406 clip with a team-high 16 kills along with eight digs. Porterfield set a season high with 16 kills while hitting .353. Stillwell had a double-double, her third of the season, with 14 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Nicole Fenner (Duluth, Ga./Wesleyan) had her second straight match with a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs. Junior libero Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) increased her conference-leading dig average to 6.45 per game with a 31-dig performance.&nbs
