TRIBE HOLDS ON TO BEAT JMU IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Jan. 31, 2007 ? William & Mary's Nathan Mann scored 16 of his game-high 21 points during the final 15 minutes as the host Tribe held off James Madison for a 65-62 men's Colonial Athletic Association basketball win over James Madison Wednesday.
JMU rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to get to within 61-57 on freshman guard JaQuan Bray's (Smyrna, Ga./Campbell) three-pointer with 1:13 left but couldn't score on its next two possessions. William & Mary got a free throw from Laimis Kisielius with 1:01 to play for a 62-57 lead with 1:01 left, two free throws from Adam Payton with 26.6 seconds remaining and another free throw from Payton with 8.3 seconds to play to stay in front.
JMU got a two-point field goal from freshman guard Pierre Curtis (Denver, Colo./East) with 9.7 seconds to play and a Curtis three-pointer with 2.9 second left to get to within 65-62 but didn't get the ball back.
Mann hit on eight of 11 shots overall and five of six attempts from three-point range in 33 minutes.
The Tribe hit on eight of 19 three-point attempts and shot 46.9 percent overall (23-49). JMU shot 48.4 percent (15-31) during the final half and 43.6 percent (24-55) overall.
Bray scored all of his 10 points during the final 10:42 to play a leading role in JMU's rally from a 44-32 deficit with during the final 14:05. He hit on four of seven shots, including two of three attempts from three-point range.
William & Mary hit on 10 of its first 15 shots from the field, including four three-point attempts, and eventually led 32-17 before JMU closed the opening half with a 9-0 scoring run.
Kisielius had 10 of the Tribe's first 24 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and William & Mary shot 52.2 percent overall from the field (13-22) during the initial half.
JMU hit on only nine of 24 first-half shots (37.5 percent) but got a follow shot from sophomore forward Kyle Swanston (Spring Hill, Fla./Hernando), two free throws from ju | |||
