WILMINGTON, N.C., Oct. 28, 2007 ? Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs and senior Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) had 28 digs to lead James Madison University to a 3-0 win at UNC Wilmington on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball.
JMU (15-9, 6-4 CAA) defeated UNCW (8-20, 1-10 CAA) by game scores of 30-26, 30-28, and 30-22 in the only meeting of the season between the teams. The Dukes won for the fifth time in their last six matches.
Callahan recorded her seventh double-double of the season, and her 16 digs and four assists were both career highs. Senior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had a team-best 12 kills and five blocks. Four other players had at least five kills and another had four in a balanced offense for the Dukes.
Pierson's 28 digs were a season high for a three-game match. She added two service aces to give her 108 in her career, passing Valerie Kaput (1993-97) into 10th place in the career record book. Junior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 41 assists, five kills, two aces, five digs, and three blocks for a solid all-around performance.
Anna Price led the Seahawks with a double-double of 16 kills and 15 digs while hitting .351. The next-highest hitter was Megan Nash with eight kills. Jill Hoeck had 32 assists and eight digs at the setter position. Ashlyn Morris contributed 17 digs.
JMU grabbed early control of game one with a 5-0 run to open the match and the Dukes at one point led 13-7 before UNCW scored eight of the next nine points to grab a 15-14 lead. The Seahawks were up 20-18 when the Dukes put together a 5-0 run to take a 23-20 lead. UNCW was within one at 25-24, but JMU pulled out the 30-26 win.
Game two was the most tightly-contested game of the match with 17 tie scores and nine lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points until JMU grabbed the lead for good at 23-22 and went up 25-22. The Dukes went up 29-25 and on the
