KITTY HAWK, N.C., October 30, 2007 -- The JMU men's golf team shot a final round 285 and moved up from 18th to finish 14th out of 21 teams on Tuesday at the ODU Seascape Collegiate.
Juniors Fielding Brewbaker (Salem, Va./Salem) and Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) each set a new season best by shooting rounds of 67 on Tuesday. They finished tied for fifth and 39th, out of 107 participants, respectively.
Brewbaker's previous personal best had been a round of 69 he fired over a year ago at the Joe Agee Invitational. He finished the tournament shooting 72-67--139 and finished just two shots out of first. This was his third top-10 finish of the season.
Driver paired his second round 67 with a first round 81 to finish with a 148, 11 strokes of the lead.
Other Madison participants included sophomore Jhonny Montano (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Cochabamba Cooperative School) who tied for 79th (79-74--153) and a pair of freshman Brian Stele (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) and Matt Pesci (Langhorn, Pa./Neshaminy). Stele finished tied for 81st (77-77--154) while Pesci came in 102nd (85-78--163).
The University of Hartford won the tournament after shooting rounds of 284-285--569. After Hartford came Campbell (292-280--572), Wofford (283-291--574), Old Dominion (292-284--576) while Winthrop (293-285--578) and Richmond (288-290--578) tied for fifth.
