HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 7, 2007 --Freshman Demar Stephenson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Archbishop Carroll) scored with just under 20 minutes to play to lift Delaware to a 1-0 men's soccer win over James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association play Sunday afternoon at the JMU Soccer Complex.
The Blue Hens, who got their first win of the year, have a 1-7-1 overall record and are 1-1-0 in CAA play.JMU, which dropped its third straight game, is 1-6-3 overall and 0-2-0 in the CAA.
Freshman Darren Christie (Huntsville, Ala./Evelyn Baring, Swaziland) set up the winning goal with a pass into the box to Stephenson.He hit a quick shot from 15 yards that went into the goal just inside the right post with 19:52 remaining.
The Blue Hens' best scoring chance in the opening half came when a shot from Christie from 22 yards out was punched over the goal by JMU freshman goalkeeperKen Manahan (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor).Another attempt from outside the box by Christie in the opening minutes of the second half was just wide.
