NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 22, 2007 ? Eugene Harvey scored 10 of his game-high 27 points while Seton Hall was overcoming a 13-point deficit in the final 2:27 of regulation, and the host Pirates went on to beat James Madison 112-110 in overtime in men's non-conference basketball Saturday.
JMU, which was closing the pre-holiday portion of its schedule, led by as many as 19 points early during the second half and 93-80 before Seton Hall rallied to tie the score at the end of regulation. The Big East Conference Pirates then held off a JMU rally in the final minute of overtime after leading by four points during the extra period.
Seton Hall was up 111-107 on a Brian Laing free throw with 1:03 left in overtime, but JMU got a three-point play from sophomore guard Pierre Curtis (Denver, Col./East) with 0:53 left and got the ball back when Harvey missed a pair of free throws with 12.4 seconds left (Seton Hall kept possession with an offensive rebound previously).
The Dukes pushed the ball upcourt after Harvey's misses, and Curtis got off a short jumper in the lane that rolled off the rim. Seton's Hall's Paul Gause then hit on one of two free throws after being fouled while rebounding Curtis' driving shot.
Seton Hall improved to 8-2 with the victory while JMU had a five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-2.
Harvey had 18 points and Gause all of his 21 during the final half as Seton Hall shot 55.6 percent from the field (23-41) after intermission. The Pirates hit on six of 10 attempts from three-point range during the final half after missing all six of their tries during the first half, and they were 17 of 19 from the foul line during the second half.
