HARRISONBURG, Va., March 5, 2007 ? The James Madison University men's tennis team was defeated by Davidson and North Carolina on the road over the weekend. The Dukes traveled to Davidson, N.C. and were defeated 6-1 then traveled to #17 North Carolina and were defeated 7-0.
The Dukes picked up a point against Davidson by winning two of three singles matches. Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) and Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) won their doubles match 8-5 over Flaviu Simihaian and John Bolton, while John Snead (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) and Brian Rubenstein (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) defeated Scott Myers and Sam Burns 8-5.
Smith took his singles opponent Eric Noble to three sets before falling 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.
Tarr and Smith recorded a doubles victory against North Carolina when they beat Lenny Gullan and David Stone 8-7.
The men's tennis team host their first home match on March 13 at 3:00 p.m. against Richmond.
