NEWARK, Del., March 9, 2007 -- The second-seeded James Madison women's basketball team downed number 10 seed North Carolina Wilmington 73-43 in Friday night's Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Dukes advance to Saturday's 2:30 p.m. semifinal vs. third-seeded Delaware, which beat number six Virginia Commonwealth 79-58 earlier Friday.

Senior center Meredith Alexis (Hanover Township, Pa./Bishop Hoban) scored a game-high 18 points and broke both JMU's season scoring and rebounding records. Her season total of 559 points surpassed the former record of 551 set by Sydney Beasley in 1987-88. She increased her season rebounding total of 344 to beat her own record of 339 set last year.

Junior guard Tamera Young (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) tallied her 26th career double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and senior guard Lesley Dickinson (Queens Village, N.Y./Christ the King) added 12 points.

UNCW was led by Becca Papach with 14 points and Lori Drake with 11.

The game was close in the early stages, with JMU leading 15-14 at 14:13. But the Dukes ran off 19 unanswered points, including 15 points following UNCW turnovers, to lead 34-14 at 8:23. Seven different JMU players combined for the 19 points

JMU opened the second half by outscoring UNCW 19-5 to build a 33-point advantage with 10:37 remaining. The Dukes led by as many as 35 points (the last time 71-36 at 6:03).

JMU improved to 26-4, while the Seahawks ended their season with an 8-23 record.
