ONEONTA, N.Y., Sept. 7, 2007 -- Senior Chris Jackson (Manchester, England) provided the game's lone goal on a penalty kick to lift Hartwick to a 1-0 victory over James Madison in the nightcap of the first day at the 32nd Annual Mayor's Cup, Friday evening at Elmore Field.
Syracuse overcame a 1-0 deficit to down Seton Hall 2-1 in the opener.
Jackson beat JMU freshman goalkeeper Ken Manahan (Fredericskburg, Va./Chancellor) with his PK attempt at the 37:57 mark of the first half
The Hawks (2-1-0) played in a man-up situation from Jackson's tally onward due to a red card awarded to a JMU player.
Hartwick goalie Jeremy Vuolo (Downingtown, Pa.) did not need to make a save to get the shutout.
JMU (1-2-0) mustered six shots, but failed to put one on net.
In the opening game of the tournament, Hansen Woodruff scored the game-winning goal off a rebound at the 66:26 mark to give Syracuse its victory over the Pirates.
Seton Hall, which fell to 2-1, got on the board early in the contest as Eliseo Guisfredi beat Syracuse goalie Robert Cavicchia on a direct kick 39 seconds into the match.
