HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 6, 2008 -? Five James Madison players scored in double figures as the Dukes (1-0, 8-4) defeated North Carolina Wilmington (0-1, 9-3) 79-39 in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.
JMU senior guard Tamera Young (Wilmington, N.C./Laney) led all players with 19 points. Also in double figures for the Dukes were freshman center Lauren Jimenez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) with a season-high 16, redshirt senior forward Jennifer Brown (Brooklyn, N.Y./Martin Luther King) with 12, junior forward Kisha Stokes (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) with 10, and freshman point guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) with 10.
Brown also had a game-high 10 rebounds as she recorded her third double-double of the season
UNCW was led by sophomore guard Greta Luksyte's (Vilnius, Lithuania/Walsingham Academy) 15 points. She was the only Seahawk in double figures.
The game was close early with two ties and three lead changes in the first six minutes. However, JMU outscored UNCW 28-8 over the final 14:40 of the half and entered intermission leading 38-19. The Seahawks, who had 14 turnovers in the first half, scored only two field goals in that span.
UNCW shot only 30 percent (12-40) from the field for the game, while JMU hit 44.8 percent (30-67) of its field-goal tries. The Dukes held a 46-28 rebounding advantage.
