HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 4, 2008 ? James Madisonsophomore CJ Sapong (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) scored with less than five minutes to play to lift the Dukes to a 1-0 win over Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer Saturday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.
The Dukes improved their overall record to 5-3-2 and their CAA record to 2-1-0.Delaware dropped to 1-7-2 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.
On the game-winning score, senior Nick Zimmerman (Tampa Bay, Fla./Wharton) passed the ball from the center of the field to the left side to redshirt sophomore Andrew Harvey (Herndon, Va./Herndon).Harvey sent a pass into the box to Sapong, who knocked a three-yard shot into the goal inside the left post.The score came with 4:57 left to play.
Both teams had several quality scoring chances in each half.
In the opening period a shot from 15 yards out by Sapong went just wide of the goal in the sixth minute.In a breakaway in the 20th minute, Sapong hit the left post on a shot from close range.A header by freshman
