HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 2, 2008 ? Senior guard Abdulai Jalloh (District Heights, Md./National Christian Academy) scored eight of his game-high 20 points during a 16-6 second-half scoring run that gave James Madison control, and the Dukes went on to beat Philadelphia University 74-65 in men's college basketball exhibition play at the JMU Convocation Center Sunday.
JMU trailed 29-17 late during the first half and 31-25 at the break. The Dukes still were down 41-38 with 13:47 to play but scored nine straight points to lead 47-41 on two free throws by freshman guard Devon Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) at 11:40. A Jalloh steal and layup, a Jalloh three-pointer and two more free throws by Moore gave JMU a 54-45 lead with 8:23 left, and the Dukes kept at least a six-point margin the rest of the way.
JMU sealed the win by hitting on 10 consecutive free throw attempts during the final 1:32 and was successful on 22 of 23 second-half free throws and 27 of 31 tries for the game.
The Dukes shot 57.1 percent (12-21) from the field during the final half after shooting but 39.1 percent (9-23) during the opening period. Philadelphia shot 54.2 percent (13-24) during the first half and 38.2 percent (13-34) during the second.
Jalloh started JMU's key 16-6 run with a three-pointer, and he had four three-pointers overall, a team-high five assists, and a team-high-tying seven rebounds.
Junior guard Pierre Curtis (Denver, Colo./East) with 12 points, freshman forward Andrey Semenov (St. Petersburg, Russia/Blue Ridge School) with 11 and senior forward Juwann James (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines) with 10 points also reached double figures in scoring for the Dukes.
