HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 20, 2008 ? Old Dominion set a season high for assists and had four players score at least 12 points to beat James Madison 72-52 in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball at the JMU Convocation Center Wednesday.
ODU won its fourth in a row and improved to 15-13 overall and 10-6 in the CAA. JMU fell to 11-15 overall and 4-12 in the conference.
The visiting Monarchs scored the first eight points and held JMU scoreless until the 15:11 mark of the first half. ODU raised the margin to 17-4 on Darius James' three-point field with 10:39 left in the in the first half. Old Dominion led 38-21 after shooting 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field during the opening half and kept at least a 15-point advantage the rest of the way.
Old Dominion set a team season high with 24 assists, which came on 31 total field goals. The Monarchs shot 58.5% from the field, including 64% in the second half. JMU shot 38% for the contest. ODU outscored JMU in points in the paint 40-10.
Junior guard Abdulai Jalloh (District Heights, Md./National Christian Academy) led the Dukes with 14 points. Sophomore guard Pierre Curtis (Denver, Colo./East) tallied five assists for JMU.
Sophomore forward Gerald Lee (Uusikaupunki, Finland/Korihait) led the Monarchs with 16 points on 8-for-12 shooting. Senior guard Brian Henderson (Richmond, Va./Varina) added 13 points and three assists. Freshman forward Frank Hassell (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) had his first career double-double with 12 points, 10 boards, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Freshman guard Ben Finney (Portsmouth, Va./Norcom) added 12 points.
