HARRISONBURG, Va., April 24, 2008 -- The James Madison softball community held their sixth annual StrikeOut Cancer event last weekend. During the event the Dukes raised $1,210 for the American Cancer Society through donations and a silent auction.

In addition, they combined to donate over eight feet of hair to Locks of Love and Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Those donating their hair included, freshman catcher Katie Spitzer (Broadway, Va./Broadway), sophomore outfielder Lauren Mernin (Herndon, Va./Herndon) sophomore infielder Brittney Lyddane (Manassa, Va./Osbourn Park), student manager Kimberly Lyddane, and assistant coaches Kristy Norton and Cheryl Shockley.

In the six years the Dukes have held the StrikeOut Cancer weekend they have raised over $6,000 for Cancer Research.
