HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 14, 2009 ? Freshman forward Julius Wells (Toledo, Ohio/Libbey) recorded his first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead James Madison to a 79-58 Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball win over UNC Wilmington on Wednesday night at the Convocation Center.
JMU won its fourth straight CAA contest to improve to 4-2 in the conference and 12-6 overall. It is the longest conference winning streak for the Dukes since taking four in a row early in the 1999-2000 season. UNCW, which had just snapped a 10-game losing skid in its previous contest, fell to 4-14 overall and 1-5 in the CAA.
The Seahawks led 6-5 in the early going before the Dukes went on a 14-0 run to take charge at 19-6. JMU led by as much as 18 in the first period before going into the break up 35-23.
In the second half, UNCW cut the margin to 10 at 40-30 with 17:19 remaining before JMU went on a quick 8-0 burst. Another 10-0 run later in the period extended to the largest lead of the game at 66-40 with 6:41 remaining. The Dukes went on to cruise to the 79-58 triumph.
