HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 13, 2009 ? James Madison volleyball head coach Disa Garner today welcomed middle blocker Kelly Maguire, who signed a national letter of intent to join the Dukes for the 2010 season.
Garner commented on the signing, “We are excited about Kelly Maguire joining the Dukes. She is a tall, athletic, versatile middle blocker with a really quick arm swing. Her strength is hitting off one foot behind the setter, which will fill a void that we have had. She will add great balance to our middle blocking group. I am looking forward to the future with the size of her block, how well she hits the slide, and more importantly, with how mobile she is for her position. We are looking for her to make an impact very early on next year.”
As a 6'3” middle, Maguire adds size to the JMU front line. The Long Valley, N.J. native is wrapping up her senior season of competition at West Morris Central High School where the Highlanders are currently competing in the state tournament after winning the Morris County championship. West Morris Central has won the Iron Hills Conference each of the last three years and was a county finalist in 2007 and 2008 before claiming the championship in 2009. The Higlanders were Group III state finalists in 2008 along with Daily Record Team of the Year.
While senior year-end awards have not been released yet, as a junior, Maguire was Second Team All-State by the New Jersey Star-Ledger, as well as First Team Group III and First Team All-County by the same publication. She was also voted team MVP and First Team All-Area by the Morris County Daily Record. In addition to WMCHS, Maguire has also competed for Atlantic Valley Volleyball Club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and has earned High Honor/Honor Roll recognition all three years.
