BROOKLINE, Mass., Nov. 5, 2009 -- Three James Madison women's soccer players have been named to the 2009 All-Colonial Athletic Association Team.
Senior forward Corky Julien (Williamstown, Ontario./Char Lan District), redshirt senior defender Teri Maykoski (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and junior midfielder Teresa Rynier (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) were named to the All-CAA first team.
The awards, selected in voting by the league's head coaches, was presented Thursday night on the eve of the semifinals of the CAA Women's Soccer Championship in Brookline.
Julien and Rynier earned All-CAA first team honors for the second year in row. Maykoski was named the first team for the first time; she was a second-team honoree in 2006 and 2008.
Julien is tied for first in the CAA in goals (14) and game-winners (7) and is second in goals average (0.74), points (31) and points average (1.63). This season she set school records for season (7) and career (19) game-winning goals. She's in second place on JMU's career goals (44) and points (102) lists.
Rynier leads the conference in both assists (12) and assist average (0.63) and ranks sixth in the nation in assist average (0.63). Her 37 career assists is a school record, and her season total of 12 assists is a school record for assists by a junior. Earlier this year she also set a school record with four assists against Xavier on Aug. 28.
Maykoski anchors a JMU defense that has allowed just over goal per game (1.07 average) and has recorded seven shutouts.
Northeartern freshman forward Devin Petta was selected as the 2009 CAA Player and Rookie of the Year, Diana Weigel was honored as CAA Defender of the Year and Northeastern's Ed Matz was chosen as the Coach of the Year.
Petta topped the CAA with 35 points and is tied for the conference lead in goals (14) and game-winning goals (7). She is the first women's soccer player in league history to earn CAA Player and Rookie of the Year accolades in the same season
Weigel was the top performer on a William and Mary defense that was tied for the second in the CAA with nine shutouts and surrendered just 22 goals in 19 contests this season.
Matz guided Northeastern to first place in the CAA with a 7-1-3 league record. The Huskies also set a school record for regular-season wins in 2009 with a 12-3-3 mark.
