HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 12, 2009 -- James Madison led from the opening basket and defeated Hofstra 62-50 in Colonial Athletic Association women's basketball Thursday evening at the JMU Convocation Center.
JMU won its fourth-straight and improved to 17-6 overall and 10-2 in CAA play. The Pride fell to 14-9 and 6-6 in the conference.
The Dukes, who won for the eighth time in their last nine games, remained tied atop the conference standings with Drexel and Virginia Commonwealth.
JMU sophomore guard Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) and senior forward Kisha Stokes (New York, N.Y./Murry Bergtraum) led the Dukes with 10 points apiece. Sophomore forward/center Jalissa Taylor (Chesterfield, Va./L.C. Bird) had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Hofstra was led by freshman guard Asia Jenkins (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Township) with 15 points. She was joined in double figures by senior guard
